For almost 40 years, Vélo Québec, a non-profit organization, has been a prominent part of the cycling landscape in Québec. Our organization has continuously encouraged the use of the bicycle, whether for tourism purposes or as a means of clean and active transportation, so as to improve the environment and the health and well-being of citizens.
To achieve its objectives, Vélo Québec relies on a vast range of tools and means deployed by four different divisions: Vélo Québec Association, Vélo Québec Éditions, Vélo Québec Événements and Vélo Québec Voyages.
Vélo Québec are :
- Vélo Québec Association, a membership association that has been defending the rights of cyclists since 1967
- Vélo Québec Éditions (Vélo Mag and various other magazines, guides, maps and publications)
- Vélo Québec Événements, responsible for the creation and organization of internationally renowned cycling events such as the Tour de l’Île de Montréal, the highlight of the Montréal Bike Fest
- Vélo Québec Voyages, an active travel agency that offers various cycling packages.
Based on an idea that originated with Vélo Québec, the Route verte has been under development since 1995, with the collaboration of the Québec ministry of transportation as well as numerous regional partners.
When completed in 2007, the Route verte will comprise 4,000 kilometres of bikeways linking the various regions of Québec.
